WATER SLIDE APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

The decal must be applied on a lacquered flat and bright polished surface and may not adhere properly on raw, satin, oiled, or waxed finished wood.

1)       Cut your decal around the design without cutting into it.

2)       Submerge the decal in a small bowl of water just to get it wet.

3)       Take the decal out of the water and leave it resting for 8 to 10 minutes. This step will allow the decal glue to dissolve and will result on better adhesion when applied.

3)

4)       Position the Decal.

Hold the backing paper near the desired application area on your guitar.

Gently slide the decal off the backing paper directly onto the guitar surface.

You can use your finger to hold the edge of the decal while pulling the backing paper out from underneath.

5)       Once the decal is on the surface, you'll have

5)a short window (while it's still wet) to gently

5)slide it into the perfect position.

5)Use a damp paper towel or a soft, clean

5)cloth to carefully smooth out any water or air

5)bubbles from under the decal, working from

5)the center outwards. Press down the decal.

5)Blot excess water.

6)       Allow the decal to dry completely for at least

6)24 hours in a dust-free environment.

6)Do not touch the decal during this time.

Finishing / Lacquering Your Decal:

The first coats of lacquer must be mist coats of spray; the lacquer should hit the surface as a fine mist. If you are using an aerosol hold the can well back from the surface.

Once the decal has set (a minimum of 24 hours after application), apply a very light mist coat of your chosen lacquer over the decal. Ensure that this lacquer is compatible with that used for the base coat. When this is touch dry (typically 5-30 minutes), apply another light mist coat.

Leave this coat to dry, then apply a third mist coat. This process allows the lacquer to fill the tiny “step” created by the decal.

Leave to dry for 24 hours.

Rub down the headstock using 600 wet & dry paper (used wet on a flat block) until the lacquer and decal are flush. Be sure not to rub through the lacquer and scuff the decal.

The edges should now be invisible. You can now either polish the headstock up to a high gloss or apply several thicker lawyers of lacquer over the entire headstock to obtain your desired finish.
